Elvis!
What a fantastic and magical place to start. Actually a perfect post.
Whenever I share that "I was in a movie with Elvis" it always generates attention, although lately I’ve had to explain to a much younger generation exactly who I’m bragging about and that’s not quite so impressive or fun.
I discovered "The King" when I was twelve and heard "Heartbreak Hotel” on the radio.
I can still remember where I was and how this crazy new sound and the power of his voice hit me like lightening.
I’d never heard anything like it in my life.
It sure as heck wasn’t Pat Boone.
I bought Elvis' 45-record and played it over and over, lip-syncing my heart out in the mirror, slowing it down to 33 speed so I could understand every single. word.
And get this! I made a guitar out of cardboard and twine, slicked my hair back and gathered enough courage to perform in the school talent show. I was a hit!
Everybody went crazy with laughter and applause. I discovered on stage that I was fearless – a very strange and exhilarating feeling for a shy girl and I was hooked.
Years later, my crazy dream came true. I met Elvis, he gave me hugs and held my hand for two whole days while we made a movie together at the Seattle World’s Fair.
This is all I can write today. But there will be more details about this story coming soon.
I’m better at putting my feelings into music which you’ll find out about later if you’re interested but here’s a little bit of the song I wrote to commemorate that super fantastical, unforgettable lifetime happening event, and a secret look at the lyrics and key changes too. Enjoy!
